EXPOSE': ENJOYING EATING MY WORDS (Full Article)

Iʼve dated other actors. Disastrous. Iʼve been romantically involved with people I worked with. Even more disastrous. So, Iʼd made up my mind and there was no changing it, I was definitely not going to date another actor and I was definitely not going to date someone I worked with. No less than a week after that declaration, I met an actor...that I worked with.

Iʼve been dating my boyfriend, the “actor that I worked with”, for over a year now and come to find that he has completely disproved the validity of my former statement.  Why? Because he knows what it feels like to drive all over town in rush hour traffic while changing clothes in the car for auditions that are complete cattle calls or something I couldnʼt be more wrong for. He knows what it feels like to have a bad class, to not book anything for a while, to be run ragged waiting tables, getting extra ketchup for some whiner who wonʼt even look at you only to receive a nominal tip. He knows questions
like, “When am I going to see you on TV??” or, “So, what have you done?” are only uttered by those who typically do not understand the difficulty of this pursuit nor the patience and hard work it takes. He treats acting (not “becoming famous!”) with the respect it deserves, much the way a med student studies all the facets of the body before performing surgery. He also knows how important the little milestones are; becoming SAG eligible, booking your very first co-star, finishing your first year of acting
school. He knows the ups and downs, the good, the bad, the ugly, the too tall, too short, too fat, too white, too cute, too...wrong. In short, he understands me. He gets it.

Isnʼt that, after all, one of the most fundamental human desires? To understand and be understood? So, for me, personally, I feel infinitely grateful to be dating a man who not only supports my passion, but understands it as well. Everyone always says, “Dating in LA is impossible.” Well, perhaps swearing off a certain type is the way to bring them right to you!
